Eco Dyeing

with Someone (TBC) | 11:00-12:30pm | J02

Eco dyeing is an ancient practice of colouring fabrics using pigments extracted from natural sources like plants, minerals, and insects, rather than synthetic chemicals. In this workshop, we take the sustainability one step further and teach you how to use kitchen scraps, such as onion skins, avocado pips and beetroot tops, as well as eucalyptus leaves to “print” onto fabrics and give old clothing a new life.

What to bring:
BYO natural fibre garment for dyeing or choose from our supplies. Washed and dried garments to be collected at 3pm.

DIY Patches

with DC Style Fylez | 11:00-12:00pm | J06

DC Style Fylez (aka David Creed) is a Melbourne based artist and agony aunt style fashion blogger who utilises upcycling and DIY approaches to create wearable artworks which are witty and clever. His practice explores how we engage with fashion while also critiquing the ridiculousness of the high fashion world. On his recent artist residency with Tropical Lab (Singapore), he explored the idea of “service” by hand sewing personalised patches for individuals on his adventures around Singapore. David will take you through how to make your own personalised upcycled patch using fabric off cuts, printmaking and embroidery techniques.

Scrappy Sewing

with Caleb Azeez | 1:30-2:30pm | J02

Don’t throw those fabric offcuts away! Scrappy sewing is a technique that uses small, assorted fabric scraps from various sources to create larger fabric panels or projects. The goal is to use up leftover materials, resulting in projects with a distinctive, eclectic, and visually striking. In this workshop you will make a panel of layered embroidery which can be attached to an existing garment or simply enjoyed as in its own right.
